What is in this range

Specimen collection supplies are the pieces that carry a sample from the person to the bench: the container it is collected in, the tube it travels in, and the bag that carries it to the lab. Everything on this page is from the Dynarex LabChoice range and sold by the case, in the quantities a working collection site or laboratory uses rather than retail packs. The range is split into five shelves: Biohazard Specimen Bags, Urine Sample Cups (a 90 mL cup with a temperature strip), Stool Sample Containers, Specimen Cups (including universal and sputum containers), and Urine Collection (a transfer cup, a midstream catch kit, a 24-hour container, a collection hat and castile soap towelettes). What arrives sterile, and what does not

Each product page states whether the item is sterile. Sterile options sit on four shelves: Specimen Cups (the 4 oz, 60 mL and 90 mL sterile containers), Urine Sample Cups, Stool Sample Containers (the 30 mL and 60 mL sterile containers) and Urine Collection (the 100 mL transfer cup and the midstream catch kit). The 24-hour container, the collection hat, the towelettes and the non-sterile cups are non-sterile. Dynarex does not state sterility for the universal containers or the transport tubes, so we do not make a claim for them here.

Choosing between the 90 mL cup and the 100 mL transfer cup

Both are sterile and both collect urine, but they suit different jobs. The 90 mL cup has a temperature strip, so the specimen temperature can be read at the point of collection. The 100 mL cup has an integrated transfer device: after the cup is capped, a tube is filled straight from it, so nobody has to pour or reopen the container. It suits routine urinalysis, where speed and clean handling at the bench matter more than a temperature reading.

How a sample moves from collection to lab

For a clean-catch urine sample, the patient first cleans with a towelette, or uses the midstream catch kit, which packs the cup with its own towelettes. The sample is collected, the screw-on cap goes on, and the label is filled in. The capped container goes into the main pouch of a specimen bag, the paperwork slides into the separate outer pouch, and the zip closure seals it. Checkboxes on the bag record whether the specimen is frozen, refrigerated or at room temperature.

The transport tubes

The 5 mL and 10 mL transport tubes are clear, self-standing polypropylene tubes with a polyethylene screw cap, graduated marks and a white writing panel. Because they stand on their own, they are easier to fill and label. They ship 1,000 to a case, and the small 4 × 6 in specimen bag fits them. Dynarex does not state sterility for them.

Case quantities

Case packs here run from 40 units (the 3 L 24-hour urine container) to 1,000 (the specimen bags, the transport tubes and the towelettes). Every product page states its own count, with the price per unit under the case price.

Building a complete collection kit

Each item ships as its own case, so a collection site orders exactly what it uses rather than a fixed kit. A drug-testing collection point typically pairs the 90 mL cup with specimen bags, so each filled cup travels to the lab sealed, with its paperwork in the pouch. A site that builds its own clean-catch kits pairs a sterile 4 oz cup with castile soap towelettes. The midstream catch kit is the ready-made alternative.

Specimen containers for drug-testing programs

Drug-testing sites usually order specimen containers and screens together. A site running urine drug test cups collects straight into the cup. A site sending samples to a lab collects into the 90 mL cup with temperature strip and ships it in a specimen bag. Can I order less than a full case? No broken cases. Everything ships as a full case, in the quantity on its product page.

Are the cups and tubes sterile? Only where stated. Every product page says sterile, non-sterile, or not stated by Dynarex.
