Direct thermal or thermal transfer
Direct thermal is a different print technology from thermal transfer labels: a thermal transfer label needs a ribbon cartridge loaded into the printer, while a direct thermal label prints from heat alone, straight off a compatible pharmacy label printer, with one less consumable to keep in stock.
The label and the case
The pharmacy label is a 1 in x 3.5 in white direct thermal label with a permanent acrylic adhesive, sized for a standard patient dose label — name, dosage, date, and a barcode or lot number where a pharmacy's own workflow calls for one. Each roll runs 1,350 labels, sold four rolls to a case, so a pharmacy dispensing at volume can restock without breaking into partial cases.
4x6 shipping labels
The 4x6 shipping labels are white direct thermal labels, perforated between labels, in two formats: fanfold stacks, 2 stacks of 2,000 to a carton, and rolls, 1,000 labels on a 3 in core with 4 rolls to a case. Both fit Zebra industrial printers and other industrial direct thermal printers.
Why the label matters
