When a Medicine Bottle Fails, Check the Cap
A 356,140-unit recall was fixed with a new cap. Here is why child resistance belongs to the bottle and cap together, and what to check when you reorder.

In April 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of about 356,140 iron supplement bottles and packets from Vitaquest International. Federal law requires iron products to ship with child-resistant closures, and these did not meet the standard. No incidents were reported. For many of the bottles, the fix was a free replacement cap (CPSC).
That last part is the lesson for anyone who orders pharmacy supplies.
A medicine bottle is not child-resistant on its own, and neither is a cap. Certification covers one bottle and one closure, tested together.
Unitec Laboratory Services is an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab.
Child resistance belongs to the pair
A medicine bottle on its own is not child-resistant. Neither is a cap sitting in a case. Certification is done on one specific bottle and one specific closure, tested together.
Our 30cc and 45cc packer bottles with the 28-400 child-resistant cap were independently tested by Unitec Laboratory Services, an ISO/IEC 17025-accredited lab, to 16 CFR 1700.15.
What to check when you reorder

We carry the 28-400 cap two ways. Both are the same child-resistant cap; only the liner inside changes.

Who orders them
Questions buyers ask
Is a medicine bottle child-resistant on its own?
No. Child resistance is certified on a specific bottle and a specific closure, tested together. Neither part is child-resistant alone.
Can I use a cap from another supplier if it fits?
It may fit the neck, but it is not covered by the test that certified the bottle and cap as a pair.
Do I need an induction sealer?
Only for foil seal caps. Foam liner caps seal on contact when tightened, with no equipment.
