What these strips test — and what they do not
These are not urine drug screens. A strip is used to check a substance — a liquid, a powder or a pill — for the presence of fentanyl or xylazine before it is used. Every other page in this section screens a person’s specimen; this page screens a sample of material.
Fentanyl and xylazine are the two most consequential adulterants in the current supply, and xylazine does not respond to naloxone — which is why programs increasingly check for both.
Regulatory status
Both are For Forensic Use Only. They are not for clinical diagnostic use and must not be used to diagnose, treat or make a clinical decision about a patient. Their designation is harm reduction and substance checking.
