What it is
Laparotomy sponges of pre-washed, non-fluorescent 100% cotton gauze, 4 ply, with stitched edges and a blue sewn loop that helps with the count. Each carries an x-ray detectable element. Sterile, banded 5 to a pack. Not made with natural rubber latex.
How it is used
Open a pack of 5 into the sterile field. Count sponges out at the start and back in at the end; the loop makes each one easy to pick out. Single use.
Choosing the right one
