Observed collection with no specimen handling and no bathroom — the swab is taken in front of you. Twelve configurations, 5 to 12 panels, reading in 10 minutes.
Detects recent use — a shorter detection window than urine, by design.
Buying guideWhat oral fluid detects, and the regulatory limits of this format
What a mouth swab test is
A swab is held in the mouth until saturated, then seated in the device and read. Collection is observed start to finish, which removes the substitution and dilution routes a urine collection has to guard against, and it removes the need for a dedicated collection room.
The detection window is shorter than urine and that is the point. Oral fluid picks up recent use — the window that matters for post-incident and reasonable-suspicion testing. It is the wrong tool for detecting use several days ago.
No CLIA-waived option in this format
None of the twelve is CLIA-waived. Eight are E&I Exempt — cleared for employment and insurance testing but not for clinical diagnosis — and four are For Forensic Use Only, which permits neither.
If you need a device for clinical use, it is not on this page. The integrated cup, compact cup, dip card and flat cup pages all carry CLIA-waived options.
The forensic split here is not the urine split. In oral fluid the markers that make a device Forensic Use Only are alcohol, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, fentanyl and ketamine — a different list from urine. The tier on each product page comes from the manufacturer’s documentation for that SKU, not from applying the urine rule.
